I don't know quite how to feel about this race yet... I haven't trained very good. I've gotten all my runs in but I haven't done ANY cross training which I know helps me a lot. So I was thinking below 2 hours will make me happy. But then at the same time, a tiny part of me thought I could PR... I'm sad I didn't PR. But this is a much different course than any of the ones I ran in Utah. I will say the Rock and Roll series was very fun. With all the bands along the course I only used my headphones for a bit when I was having a hard time. It started right in the heart of Dallas in front of the convention center. Runs right down the road where JFK was shot, and right past the grassy knoll. Then it curves under the fwy then loops back up through down town then into a richy rich neighborhood with Gorgeous huge southern houses. Then turns and has you go 1.5 mile gradual uphill straight into the sun on Mocking bird lane then you loop back down and end in the Fairgrounds. So I felt like I got to see a lot of Dallas which was cool. And the first 8 miles were great. I felt great, my pace was great everything was good. Then at mile 8 my upper back started killing. I know it's because we did some sight seeing yesterday and I was carrying Sophie around a lot of the day. So my back like cramped up for a mile and it hurt and slowed me down and it was getting super hot and the last 5 miles were pretty much in direct sunlight and it was just hard... :(. I saw my hubby and baby right before mile 13 and then when I hit 13 I kicked it into a gear I didn't even know I had. My garmin said 6/min mile. I don't think I've ever sprinted that fast. Then I finished and tried to get my focus and that takes me like 15 min. Had some chocolate milk and found hubby and waited for my MIL and her friends to finish and come in. It was a really fun day and it was fun to spend it with my in laws. But already in my head I'm thinking... if I could have just cut 1/min per mile off my last 6 miles I would have PR'd. Oh well. next time. I'm also not at the weight I want to be and if I was 10 lbs less I know that would make a huge difference too. The first 8 miles are gradual up and downs then the last 5 are a slight (tiny slight) decline. It wasn't enough to make a difference for me. Here's my splits. 1- 8:22 2- 8:21 3: 8:26 4: 8:30 5- 8:49 6- 8:42 7-9:30 8-9:21 9-9:33 10- 8:58 ( I can't beleive I had a mile under 9 here) 11- 10:17. sad I think I walked here 12- 9:15 13- 10:06. walked a little here. I knew I was so close but mentally I was crashing and had to walk and get my mind back in it. .1- :44
